Point of care rapid testing

Rapid diagnostic test

Point-of-care tests are simple medical tests that can be performed at the bedside. In many cases, the simplicity was not achievable until technology developed not only to make a test possible at all but then also to mask its complexity .

Today,  portable ultrasonography is often viewed as a “simple” test, but there was nothing simple about it until the more complex technology was available.

Rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) detect the presence of viral proteins (antigens) expressed by the COVID-19 virus in a sample from the respiratory tract of a person.

There are many studies underway to better understand the antibody response following infection to SARS-CoV-2. Several studies to date show that most people who have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 develop antibodies specific to this virus. However, the levels of these antibodies can vary.

The risk of catching the COVID-19 virus from the faeces of an infected person appears to be low.
