A nursing implication of administering blood pressure medication is that you may make the patient hypotensive and cause dizziness etc. As a result, you would want to be on the look out for safety concerns like the patient falling over. That is a basic one, but you get the idea.
Diagnostic testing refers to any test that may provide a diagnosis for a condition, disease or syndrome. This may include x-rays, scans and blood work. Nurses must report the results of the testing to those in need of the information when results are available.
Welcome to Laboratory
Many Diagnostic procedures require minimal nursing intervention. Often, all that is required is that the nursing staff deliver the right patient to the appropriate clinic at the designated time. Nursing personnel should explain the procedure to the patient, reassure him, and, if possible, show him the equipment.
Why are pathology tests important? Pathology tests help doctors and nurses prevent, diagnose, manage and monitor many conditions, including allergies, infections, chronic diseases and cancer.
Our Approach
Diagnostic procedure is an examination to identify an individual’s specific areas of weakness and strength in order determine a condition, disease or illness.
Diagnostic tests are either invasive and non-invasive. Invasive diagnostic testing involves puncturing the skin or entering the body. Examples are taking a blood sample, biopsies, and colonoscopies. Non-invasive diagnostic testing does not involve making a break in the skin.
These tools include needles of different gauges, collection tubes like vacutainers (vials that are sealed with negative pressure), needle holders, 2×2 gauze, a tourniquet, gloves, alcohol prep pads, cotton balls and tape or stretch gauze to stop the bleeding after the blood is drawn.
Many nurses do not recognize the importance of lab tests because they feel that the doctor is responsible for interpreting the tests. This is not entirely true. The nurse must also have basic knowledge of lab tests in order to recognize trends that affect patients and in order to develop a good nursing care plan.
